Why Being a Perfectionist is a Sign of Being In-Denial and Insecure?

There are some people who considered themselves to be individuals who strive for excellence, but feel as though they are not capable of making mistakes because they are perfect. Being a perfectionist automatically makes an individual seem as if they are shallow, selfish, and in-denial at the fact that they feel as though they will never place themselves in stressful situations. No one is capable of not making any mistakes in life. It is in our human nature to be sinful but we have the choice to make changes in our life that can be beneficial in helping us become a better person in the future.

It really just surprises me that someone can actually claim the title of being a perfectionist because how can you truly learn to be perfect when you were created with imperfections. The only being that I know for certain is perfect is God and although he created man in his image, he purposely gave human beings the choice of free will where we can either make good or bad decisions. For example, Michelle is a 25-year-old woman who has been working as a corporate lawyer for the past six years. Michelle has helped the company she works for flourish by making sure that they get into business endeavors that will increase the revenue of the company. She considers herself to be a perfectionist because she is overly organized and never arrives late to work. Michelle does not know how to deal with stress well and feel as though she can do no wrong because she is able to find a solution to her problems. Many people do not know how to deal with stress well and feel if they do not acknowledge the issues occurring in their life, then everything will be fine.

Mishaps are bound to happen in life and there is no way that you can avoid trouble from coming into your life. No matter how many times you tell yourself that you will not allow yourself to be placed in certain situations, sometimes it can be out of your control to dictate what will happen in your life. It can be so easy to plan out your life from choosing to work in a specific career field, buying a car and house, getting married, having children, owning your business, and etc.

What if everything you have made plans for do not come true, are you going to be in-denial at the fact that you feel as though life should be filled with happy moments all of the time? Life cannot always be filled with laughter sometimes you are going to go through a crisis that will literally try to break you mentally, emotionally, and physically. Calling yourself a perfectionist and trying to mimic the behavior as if you are perfect will not help you become a better person, but make you seen as though you are insecure and don’t want to acknowledge the flaws that you have.

Everyone has their own set of imperfections that are apart of them. Having imperfections does not mean that you are a bad person. God did not create human beings to be perfect, but to be the best version of themselves by being confident and not allowing others to dictate how they should live their life. The biggest critic who can tear down your confidence level is not your peers, family members, and coworkers, it’s you. Sometimes human beings can feel as though they can play the role of God by thinking that they can solve other people’s problems, but we can never be God because he is able to help individuals from all walks of life whether they are good or bad. You and no one else could never be perfect because God intentionally created all us in a unique way. It is totally fine to live by a certain standard, but don’t place yourself on a pedestal and feel as though you are incapable of making mistakes.

There are going to be plenty of times in your life where you are going to make mistakes and not even know the reason why you are making these same mistakes over and over again. Life is not about how many awards or accolades you have received at work, how much money you have in your pocket, what type of car you drive, or even if you arrive early or late to events. Being a perfectionist will not teach you how to avoid conflict from entering into your life, but how to not accept your flaws and be judgmental towards others.

Satisfaction will always be temporary to a perfectionist because they will always find  something negative from a positive situation. Most perfectionists are very competitive and do not enjoy sharing the spotlight with other people. These types of individuals are not truly happy with their life because they feel if they are not striving to be successful in all areas of their life, then they are a failure. They are not willing to allow themselves to be vulnerable and just stop trying to be something that they clearly can never be, which is being perfect. Is it really worth the time and effort to waste your life away always competing for 1st place when there will be times where you will not be the winner. There will always be someone in this world who is better at doing something that you currently are doing now, that is just the way of life.
